> x-market][folios
This speculative project was first founded in 2012 by Bahar and İpek Avanoğlu with the intention to establish a space and time for altered ways of exchange in architecture. We have defined it as a sort of black market, as it has risen as a critique of the conventionally accepted axis of exchange in architecture set between building and user, based on the assumption that architecture’s contact with people and daily life is generally achieved through formal realization of a built environment. This project offers a space for embodied experience of exchange in architecture in varying forms that does not necessarilly have to take the controlled and official form of a built environment.
This part of the project, x-market ][ folios, intends to do so through exploring a bookness of/in/around architecture, whilst the architectural work offers an ongoing reciprocal exchange through the embodied act of reading unfolded within the intimate space of a book. The project explores the spatiality and the interiority of a book, open for the performative participation of the reader (rather than the user or the viewer of the work), inviting the reader to enter in.
Similar to the Vedute collection(*), each piece is a unique artefact. Yet, differing from this collection, this project seeks not to be restricted in the controlled space of the gallery or an archive. Each work is manufactured with a open-number of editions.
This project expands as a collective work with confirmed participations by Bahar Avanoğlu, Fatmanur Çiçek, İpek Avanoğlu, N. Pınar Bayraktar, Nizam O. Sönmez, Nur Teber, Z. Erva Güven (in alphabetical order).
